CGG is a huge Dave Chappelle fan. We think his comedy is always an amazing commentary on racism and social problems. He manages to be funny while also making you think about real issues. So we paid $500 for VIP tickets to see him perform live last night at Eugene in Manhattan—it was a benefit for Kevin Powell for Congress. (Yeah you might remember him from Real World—way back. The black kid from Rutgers? Well, since Real World he has become a community organizer. Actually doing great stuff.)

The event started at 7pm. At 10:30pm, still no Chappelle in the house! Powell finally came to the mic to explain that Chappelle had missed his first plane…and then his second plane. Aaaargh!

We felt bad for Powell—the crowd of more than 2,000 was pissed. He promised tickets to the next celebrity event, but we wanted Chappelle! When celebrities flake on movies and premiere parties it’s bad news (even Eddie Murphy missed his own premiere last night), but when they flake on good causes, it’s really not cool. Remember when Operation Smile frowned on Jessica Simpson for being a no-show at their Spring Gala last year?
