Facebook-buzz helps charity win $1 mil

What’s the latest Internet trend? Facebooking for a fabulous cause. Facebook users put their wall posts, comments, and tags to good use in the weeklong competition “Chase Community Giving.” The program came to a close on January 22 with the announcement of the winning charity: Invisible Children. With its leading 123, 990 votes, Invisible Children garnered support from fans buzzing in the web not only on Facebook, but also on Twitter and through emails, helping the charity earn the one million dollar donation prize!

Kristen Bell, Rachel Bilson and Pete Wentz are among the stars who have shown their support for the charity, whose mission is to fight for the end of Uganda’s use of child soldiers, to build schools, and provide education to the children who are affected by the war. Back in October, Kristen and Rachel teamed up to co-host a Guess/Vanity Fair party in LA to launch special edition T-shirts that benefited Invisible Children.

In total, Chase has awarded $5 million to 100 local charities, thanks to the enthusiasm of millions of fans on the web. Log in to Facebook to find out more on the five runner-up charities and what you can do to continue to help.
