Our knight in shining armor, George Clooney, is in L'Aquila during this week's G8 summit but he isn’t mingling with the politicos, he’s meeting the people.!

Together with fellow actor Bill Murray, Clooney visited the earthquake devastated region of Abruzzo. They met with the quake victims who have been living in tents at a camp in the small village of St Eusanio Forconese..

Clooney announced that he would be part of the effort to re-house locals and rebuild the city by making a film there. The film will be a thriller about a killer who tries to hide out in an Italian town. As a longtime California resident, he said, he knew what earthquakes could do and he was there to help.

The Italian government chose the devastated mountain city to host the three-day G-8 summit to highlight residents' plight, but some survivors fear the move is diverting time and resources from the rebuilding of their shattered homes.

Hopefully the buzz from Clooney's visit helps L'Aquila recover and its people return home! But you don’t have to be buzz worthy to pitch in. Take an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) course at your local ambulance association and teach your community about how to be prepared for a disaster. Do like Clooney--apply for a disaster grant today!
