Grammy report: Jonas Brothers, Rihanna & Timbaland get the party started!

CGG is party-going in an uncharacteristically rainy and cold LA. It's so not fair: The sun was shining and temps were in the 80s before we arrived!

But on the way to an official Grammy-sponsored event this afternoon -- with Do Something's five Key Change Grant winners in tow -- we glimpsed a gorgeous rainbow, perhaps signaling an end to the pre-Grammy gloominess?

Last night though, the rain was still coming down in sheets. But inside Rihanna and Timbaland's joint bash at the swanky Boulevard 3, it was pure sunshine. The first thing that really made us smile: Rihanna's hot-pink stillettos (the perfect accent to her glittery, super-short, all-black ensemble). Then someone opened an umbrella as the Barbados songbird began to sing her biggest hit.

Soon after, Will.i.am was spinning a set of uplifting tunes (including the "Day and Night" 0by Kid Cudi) -- he was totally into it, dancing all over the place in the DJ booth. A few feet away, Diddy and T.I. also got their grooves on, smiling every single time we looked over.

Jay-Z and Kanye were also in the house, as were America's Best Dance crew's star judge JC Chasez and Jonas Brothers. (Earlier in the evening, Jonas Brothers kicked off the annual Music Cares salute to an oldie but goodie -- this year's honoree being Neil Diamond.)

Newlywed Timbaland closed the party out, appearing onstage backed by a full band, including three keyboard players! He ran through a set of greatest hits -- his own and ones he produced for Justin Timberlake and One Republic.

For a Timbaland soiree, the decorations were surprisingly low-key and didn't include much more than a dozen or so bouquets of roses that were sprayed platinum in honor of the star's many top-selling hits. This was a reminder that although the party and Grammy weekend are meant to honor the past year in music, there is, afterall, a recession going on.

Last week, Bruce Springsteen was able to help Americans forget the rising unemployment rate and continuing unrest around the world for 12 minutes during the Superbowl. CGG has a feeling that this weekend, other music stars might do the same. So bring on the glamour (remember when Jennifer Lopez wore that career-making, omg-look-at-her-cleavage dress?!). Bring on the music (Coldplay, Radiohead, U2 are set to perform on the award show)! Bring on the Jonas Brothers (they're up for Best New Artist)!

P.S. All this talk about music reminds us of the unfortunate move by the Senate yesterday to cut millions out of Obama's stimulus package that was meant to go to the arts. How do you feel about this? Comment below. And consider letting your your congressman and/or senator know how you feel too!
