With "National HIV Testing Day" only two days away, this “Gym Class Hero” is speaking out. Travis McCoy, is living up to his band name and he’s out of the gym…or rather off the stage and rocking his cause abroad. He just spent 11 days traveling the globe, teaching kids about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

This hip-hop hotty traveled to South Africa, the Philippines, and India. Travis was representing his new position as MTV's "2009 Staying Alive Foundation Ambassador." MTV hands out Staying Alive Foundation Awards twice a year to those who are working hard for the cause.

"I strongly feel the best cure we have at this point is increasing education and building awareness," Travis said. "It's how we use this information in the choices we make that will determine whether or not our generation will help make a change or ultimately make things worse."

Travis works to educate our generation about the disease to help decrease the staggering statistics. Around 33 million people are living with HIV around the globe, 6,000 teens from ages 16 to 24 are infected with HIV every day, and five people die from the disease every minute.

Follow Travis’ lead by creating a statistic chart of how many people are infected with HIV/AIDS everyday or starting an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign at your school. One out of five people living with HIV in the U.S. are unaware of their HIV status so go get tested and learn yours. Bring friends, spread the word!
