All Things High School Musical

HSM3 delivers inspiration!

via efronfreak.com

There are many reasons to see the latest installment of High School Musical. 1. It looks to be the last time most of the original Wildcats will be appearing in an East Side production. (Of the six main players, Sharpay is Most Likely to Return for HSM4:Post-graduation, the diva will assist Ms. D with the running of a Troy-and-Gabrielle-less drama department.) 2. The opening scene features a super close-up of Zac Efron, his hair glistening with sweat, his eyes the most unbelievably perfect shade of blue. (Actually, the fact that HSM3 features Zac at all is reason enough to see it.) And 3. The film's finale will have even the most fair-weather HSM fan feeling seriously sentimental-- especially when the cameras zoom in for the principals' good-bye smiles and winks.

Even if you've never seen HSM 1 or 2 (if such a tween or teen exists), the third chapter can be enjoyed as a happy meal unto itself. The dancing, sets, and costumes are bigger and better, just like the cinema screens that host HSM3's debut. On the whole, the first had a better collection of songs-- but the opening and closing numbers, not to mention Ryan and Sharpay's big cafeteria production, are absolutely awesome. And if you are a diehard, you'll eat up every single morsel that furthers the story of a bunch of kids who refuse to identify with one stereotype, be it basketball player, cheerleader or class president. The central plot point: Will Troy choose basketball and the University of Arizona or theater and Julliard?

In sum, CGG whole-heartedly recommends HSM3. Ok, so it doesn't have an ironic bone in its body; however you can't be mad at the fact that it reinforces the notion that you can be whomever you want to be, whatever you want to be. Indeed, it is you who determines your future and your destiny-- not your best friend, father, girlfriend or boyfriend. Even if your boyfriend happens to be (gulp) Troy Bolton!

Now it's your turn: Tell CGG what you thought of HSM3-- the good, the great, the bad, the cheesy-- by commenting below.

Nonetheless, big props to a franchise that once again shows that jocks can love theater, and that theater kids can accept jocks on their "court" too. Also make sure to check out how you as well can support more of the arts in education.

"You have to have good foresight and be really careful," Zac Efron tells EW about career management. "If you don’t adapt and learn at a very young age, you can really mess up."

Celebs give props to the Power of Youth

Last Saturday, young celebs came out by the masses to support the Target Presents Variety's Power of Youth event at L.A. Live. The event, meant to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, brought out an electric crowd of over 100 of young Hollywood including Cole and Dylan Sprouse, Selena Gomez, Taylor Lautner, Miranda Cosgrove, Brenda Song, and Shawn Pyfrom.

But the highlight of the night was certainly the videos sent by Power of Youth Ambassadors Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers (!!) who expressed their well-wishes for the event.

The Saturday benefit also included a public online charity auction featuring once-in-a-lifetime celeb packages which raised money for St. Jude.

"This feels great to be here with my fellow actors to support something like this," Twilight hottie Taylor Lautner told Variety.

Other Power of Youth Ambassadors who work to support young people getting involved with philanthropic causes include Hillary Duff, Dakota Fanning, Demi Lovato, Corbin Bleu, Ashley Tisdale, and Emma Roberts.

Do Something 101's campaign scores an A+

You came. You saw. You donated.

Ever since Do Something and Staples kicked off the Do Something 101 campaign with spokesperson Jordin Sparks’ public service announcement appearing everywhere from Channel One to Z100’s Zootopia (not to mention a print version in celebrity bible People magazine), the school supplies for less privileged students have been pouring in.

Right now, Staples is tallying the numbers of backpacks stuffed with donated notebooks, pens, paper, and more – along with the amount that was raised by the $2 donations that customers made at their registers. In the meantime, on behalf of Do Something, CGG would like to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated, and take a look back at the August celebrity event at Staples Center that resulted in a humongous pile of book bags that took up nearly the entire lobby!

Among the stars who worked side-by-side with the student volunteers: High School Musical 1, 2 and 3 star KayCee Stroh, Flight 29 Down’s Lauren Storm, American Idol finalist Jon Peter Lewis, the guys from Varsity Fanclub, actress Alexandra Krosney, Los Angeles King hockey player Dustin Brown, Tyler Stokes, and Michael Peterson.

KayCee psyched up the crowd by leaping off the stage for an impromptu “pop and lock” session, while Idol star Jon Peter asked for wannabe singers to approach the stage. In the end, only one brave girl decided to exercise her vocal chords – with a note-perfect version of our national anthem. But she was handsomely rewarded when, not long after, the teen was ushered away to meet spokesperson Jordin, who stopped by as a surprise guest. Even though her the first gig of her first headlining tour ever was hours away, Jordin made a special Staples Center pit stop just to tell the several hundred kids on hand how grateful she was for their service to their community.

Staples District Manager Matt Navarro echoed Jordin’s message of thanks, adding: "The August 7th Do Something 101 Volunteer event was a huge success with celebrities and teens helping to make a difference in Los Angeles by stuffing 5,000 bags full of school supplies for students who need them the most.”

Zac Efron knows what is up

So we've been at the DNC all week long and if there's one thing we've heard a million times it's get out there and vote!

Seriously, your candidate needs your vote! And your friend's vote. And their friend's vote. It actually does count.

And what they're most excited about is the first time voters. It's generation action for a wave of new kids who will walk into the election booth for the first time.

Included in that category? HSM supastar Zac Efron. Check out his PSA with Declare Yourself above.

Monique Coleman gears up for L.A.'s kids

You know you’ve seen her break it down on more than one occasion. High School Musical 3 star and Dancing with the Stars veteran, Monique Coleman definitely knows how to get going for a cause. Gearing up for the Malibu Triathlon on September 13th, Monique will be running, not dancing this time, to benefit the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital.

In our exclusive interview, CGG talked to Monique about her causes, Corbin Bleu, staying fit, and saying goodbye to High School Musical.

Monique vs. Miley: Who wore it better?

via Star

So apparently, the Do Something Awards wasn’t only a happening party and show—it was a stylin’ party and show! Say what? It's not all about the clothes, yo!

That's why we gotta give Monique props and fashion tops -- 'cause she wore this polka dot dress to present at the Do Something Awards, which was recently covered in Star magazine!

What do you think? Who rocked the red carpet better? And c'mon: Does it really matter? Okay, it's fun...but remember -- it's not what label you're wearing but what you're doing that really matters.

Check out all the celebrity red carpet stylings here!
