You all remember the scandalous controversies behind the scenes of "Grey’s Anatomy" last year—Isaiah Washington (Dr. Preston Burke) himself used a gay slur to describe actor and activist T.R. Knight (aka Dr. George O’Malley) on set of the show. Some thought he had hurt the gay community beyond repair and not even his savvy surgeon skills could heal the wound.
Well, he has now joined the marriage equality campaign NOH8. “It is the right thing to do because it is the humane thing to do,” Isaiah told ET in an interview. Isaiah says that there are too many people who are against the campaign and he wants to stand up to the H8ers. “I don’t want to be on any team that represents hate.”
The creator of the NOH8 campaign and very talented photographer, Adam Bouska, began the campaign to show people the faces of LGBTQ America and their supporters. The project has grown exponentially since its beginning and all the big name celebs have joined in. His ultimate goal is to help educate and reach out people who simply don’t know about what is going on in the gay rights movement.
Isaiah was an unlikely figure to join the campaign after the scorn he received for his homophobic phrase. In the interview, however, Isaiah speaks out about his beliefs and denies that he is against the movement in any way. He says he has witnessed first hand the disadvantages that gay couples have with civil unions and wants to help correct the system and help gay marriage pass in all 50 states.
