Jack Bauer saves the planet one light bulb at a time
via allposters.com
Kiefer Sutherland, who plays Agent Jack Bauer on the show 24, tends to blow things up in just about every episode. Now this makes for some very entertaining (dare we say explosive?) TV. But did you ever consider what those blow-ups do to the environment?
Well, have no fear, the hit TV show is going green! And 24 will be the first “carbon neutral” television series. The cool stunts aren’t going anywhere, Fox has simply made some adjustments.
First, Fox hired consultants to measure the carbon-dioxide output from the production. They found that 95% of emissions came from fuel for on-site generators, transportation and special effects; and the electricity used for sets and offices.
In order to keep the stunts but reduce the waste, the show started using 20% biodiesel fuel in trucks and generators, installed motion monitors in bathrooms and kitchens to make the lights more efficient and paid the higher fees that help California utilities buy wind and solar power…
Phew, they weren’t kidding when they said they were going green. The hardcore executive producers of 24 mean business with their hybrid transport, energy efficient light bulbs etc.
What do you think about 24’s attempt to go green? Will it push others to do to too - would you do it if Jack Bauer said so? Comment below!
