Jamie Foxx: the voice of a crisis

The Soloist

The Soloist may have had a disappointing opening weekend but CGG loves it anyway! After all, it’s more than just a movie people. We already knew Jamie Foxx was more than just an actor. And now this actor/singer/philanthropist is actively involved with the social action campaign for the film.

In the film, based on a true story, Jamie plays Nathaniel Ayers, the brilliant musician whose schizophrenia causes him to end up homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. The film production company Participant Media's social action campaign for the movie has developed an educational program designed to destigmatise issues of homelessness and mental illness.

In his latest superhero effort, Jamie has recorded a message for Nineline, a crisis helpline run by Covenant House, an agency that works with homeless children. They hope that hearing Jamie’s voice will be comforting and keep kids in crisis on the line that would otherwise get scared and hang up.

What's next for Jamie? We want to see him team up with the Escobar brothers of Nuttin But Stringz who have also worked with Save the Music on their own "Violins Against Violence" campaign to bring music back to schools and at-risk communities. You can get involved by starting an arts program in your community or having an arts auction to raise funds for charity.

What do you think of this new way of film making? Do you think it represents the future of Hollywood? Or do you think it’s just a new way to advertise Hollywood flicks? Comment below!
