James Bond saves the whales

World Oceans Day may have already passed, but actor Pierce Brosnan has taken his issue with whaling all the way to Congress. He is working with the International Fund for Animal Welfare to support new legislation protecting whales and other marine life.

Pierce is protecting our planet's great whales from the many dangers they face. The legislation seeks to end commercial whaling in Japan, Iceland, and Norway, which are the last three countries who are engaged in the practice.

The great whales have been the targets of aboriginal and commercial whalers for many centuries. Their blubber was rendered into oil, their meat eaten, and their baleen used, as a precursor to plastic, in corsets, umbrellas, and other items.

If you want to help protect marine life, start a letter writing campaign to encourage your politicians to support important bills like Pierce. And tell us what you think about this aquatic debate! What’s the best way to protect our oceans? Comment below!
