Jason Mraz is not only a philanthropic performer—did you know he also lives on a farm? And that farm just got greener. How? His house and studio on the land will now be fully powered by solar energy! Mraz has been updating his fans on his blog and is as excited as a kid on Christmas morning, “I’m stoked about my energy independence.”
On his blog, he also brags about his $0.00 electric bill (although building the solar array will cost him some serious green). Mraz even claims that his solar power system will, at times, send energy back into the grid, reducing the amount of coal or nuclear energy required to keep Southern California illuminated. He is so energy savvy!
You may not have the green to go that green—solar panels can be expensive. But some energy changes will actually save you some money! Did you know that if you replace 25% of your light bulbs with fluorescents, you can save about 20% on your lighting bill? So replace those bulbs!
What do you think about the energy debate? While Mraz’s methods in utilizing renewable energy are exciting, solar power and other renewable energy sources like hydropower and wind power alone are not enough to replace fossil fuels.
