CGG recently told you about Jay-Z donating $1000 to Charity:Water to help build a well for clean water to those in third-world countries who need it. Well, apparently this isn’t the only time Jay-Z has given back when it comes to clean water.

In fact, he was recently awarded a UN Global Leadership Award for his humanitarian efforts of bringing clean water to children specifically in Africa. For the past two years, Jay-Z has been working to raise funds and get the word out about each child who, according to reports, dies every 15 seconds from not having adequate drinking water.

Jay-Z most profound contributions came in 2006, when Jay-Z ventured on a world wide tour to raise awareness on the issue, and helped build 1,000 water pumps in African communities.

Of raising awareness, Jay-Z said, “If you bring awareness to young people, they’re going to see and want to be involved. I’m not a politician. I’m just a regular person with a heart. If you see a problem like that and do nothing about it, there’s something wrong with you.”

Speaking of his most recent trip to Africa, Jay-Z said, “I went to Africa, spent a couple weeks in Angola; a bunch of different places. That was the whole thing for me. I’ve given to charities in the past, and you close your eyes and cross you fingers and hope that the money gets there.” He continued, “With this, I got to go to Africa, I got to see the water pumps, I got to touch it, I got to see the kids turn them on […] I’m rewarded already.”

while giving money to a cause is great, getting your hands dirty is even better if you have the means to do so. jay-z really sets an example for his peers about what great things someone can do with the power they have. hey jay, you should post your project on the DS site! =)
