Our strong songstress, Jessica Simpson, has been ridiculed by the media for her body size all year long. This girl knows a thing or two about body image. And now she will travel the world to find out more in a new VH1 documentary series called “The Price of Beauty.”

Starting in July, Jessica will travel the globe talking to everyday women about the lengths they go for beauty, while investigating — and even participating in — some of their diets, beauty regimens and apparel. She wants to show the world how beauty is perceived in different cultures and the crazy lengths women go to for beauty.

Clearly Hollywood sends some mixed messages about body image. For instance, the average American woman is 5’4” tall and weighs 140 pounds but the average American model is 5’11” tall and weighs 117 pounds. It can be deceiving—but don’t be fooled! Striving to look like models and celebrities leads to eating disorders and depression in young people.

If you want to investigate body image like Jessica you totally can! Create a survey at your school asking how people feel about their bodies. What do you think about Jessica’s new show? Will it be a big hit? Will young women be able to relate to Jessica? Or could it send the wrong message? Tell us what you think—comment below!
