Jim Carrey blamed swine flu on factory farming in his acceptance speech at the MTV movie awards this weekend. “There wouldn’t be a swine flu if we treated the pigs better!”
Yes, we know he was probably just being his typical silly self, but we couldn’t help but take note of the comment. Jim is, after all, as green as can be with his wife Jenny who fights to make vaccinations safer by making them more natural.
But animal welfare fits into the green category, especially our piggies! Much of our pork comes from factory farms—large-scale industrial operations that house thousands of animals raised for food like chickens, turkeys, cows and…you guessed it…pigs. These factory farms are bad for the environment, bad for the animals, and ultimately, bad for us.
You can get involved by buying from local farmers who use animal-friendly products and treat their animals well. Smart shopping is one of the keys to success when it comes to causes!
Does Jim speaks the truth? Or is he reaching too far for animals rights? Tell us what YOU think! Comment below.
