Joaquin Phoenix's last performance?

Joaquin Phoenix came out Monday to support “The Painted Turtle,” one of Paul Newman’s “Hole in the Wall Gang” camps for seriously ill children in California, by performing at the event with fellow actor stars Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, and Sean Penn. Joaquin was there to support the cause, but he couldn’t help but do a little self promotion. He announced that “this will be my last performance as an actor…I’m not doing films anymore.” He will be focusing on his upcoming album, adding that “Yeah, I’m working on my music. I’m done. I’ve been through that.”

His brother-in-law and fellow actor, Casey Affleck, said Joaquin is for real, “I don’t think he’s kidding. He’s got music and stuff.”

Joaquin made a pretty convincing Johnny Cash in Walk the Line, but we wonder if he’ll join the ranks of celebs to “retire” to try their hand at music only to un-retire after less-than-stellar album sales. Actor or musician, we're glad he came out to support a good cause.
