Kal Penn: from White Castle to White House

via ibnlive.in.com
Kal Penn has made a dramatic exit from Hollywood and is heading to presidential headquarters. You heard us—the guy you may know as the doctor from House or the college kid from Harold and Kumar is now working for the President.
Kal took off his actor’s cap this week when he was killed off the hit TV show House. He is among the many celebs this year who are getting more involved in politics, saying" goodbye Hollywood, hello White House". He will take on the role as Associate Director in the Office of Public Liaison or, as he said to Entertainment Weekly, "basically the front door of the White House.”
Penn was a very active volunteer in Obama’s campaign last year, so it makes sense that he would be eager to work for the Prez…at least for now. "I love what I do as an actor," says Penn, "But probably from the time I was a kid, I really enjoyed that balance between the arts and public service."
He will handle the president's outreach to the Asian-American Pacific Islander community—a community that he knows well, as his parents were first generation immigrants.
Kal will also be in charge of the arts community outreach—but NOT the Hollywood arts community. He will focus on empowering and enabling local community organizations and activists that work to activate music programs in schools and keep community theater alive.
You can help make Kal’s new mission possible by writing to your school board about the positive influence of arts in education or even organize a poetry slam with friends to get people together around the arts!
