Last Thursday, the best of Britain showed up at Café de Paris in London to sing their hearts out for the annual “Hoping’s Got Talent” charity karaoke event. The charity event was in honor of World Refugee Day, which took place this Saturday.
Kate Moss and X Factor’s Louis Walsh hosted and judged the event but it wasn’t long before Kate jumped up on stage and performed for the crowd. But she was outdone by her own boyfriend--Kills guitarist Jamie Hince, who teamed up with Lily Allen for their own show.
The event raised over $500,000, beating last year’s $319,000—surprising considering last year’s event featured Gwyn Paltrow singing “Killing Me Softly.” The Hoping Foundation sure knows how to put on a charity event, eh? They are an organization that provides grants to community projects working with children in Palestinian refugee camps.
Want to join in the fight for refugees around the world? Be like Angelina Jolie, Ben Affleck, Kate Moss, and Lily Allen by taking part. The day may have come and gone, but the fight to help refugees around the world is hardly over. You can help by educating yourself and your peers on conflicts like Darfur or the Congo and the millions of displaced people there. Comment below!
