Green is the new black. Well, at least that’s what Kate Bosworth, Mayor Gavin Newsom, Elliott Yamin, Sebastian Siegel, Darren Moore and hundreds of eco-minded guests thought this past Tuesday night at Global Green USA’s 4th Annual San Francisco bash.

Kate Bosworth hosted the event, which focused on green solutions that can help address the world’s economic, energy and environmental crises. Proceeds from the evening benefited Global Green's initiatives nationally and in the Bay Area including its groundbreaking work to rebuild New Orleans green, to create green affordable housing that dramatically reduces high energy bills for low-income families and to create healthy green schools.

When CGG asked Kate what she would say to people who have yet to be inspired to movement, she told us: “Ask them to imagine a world they’d live in if nothing is done…thank goodness we have organizations like this to motivate a mass amount of people. I would ask them to imagine the world we would live in and the world that it should be, and hopefully find a way to combine the two.”

Kate wore a 3.1 Phillip Lim spring '09 black ole zipper dress, created with an all-natural fiber blend of 60% hemp and 40% silk. For minimum environmental impact, the fabric was hand-dyed with eco-friendly coloring and the zippers were recycled from surplus remnants, thus reducing the carbon footprint.

The benefit was full of energy and excitement for a greener planet. I only wish I had gotten the memo about the eco-friendly clothing. Cotton isn’t that bad, right?
