Katherine Heigl rescues England
via EW.com
No, not the country… the dog! Last month, Katherine Heigl was part of the effort to save an abused and neglected pit bull that was found tied to a tree. Two weeks ago, the pit bull named England (the last name of the animal control officer who saved him) was placed in a new and loving home.
The former Grey’s Anatomy actress and her mother founded the Jason Debus Heigl Foundation to bring attention to improper treatment of animals and to support the groups that help to rescue them. At a recent press conference, Heigl announced that the foundation would be working with Last Chance For Animals to continue the mission against animal cruelty.
Accompanying Heigl to the press conference was a special guest… her own pit bull, Apollo! She urged, “We really need to send a message out and educate people about the breed. This cruelty cannot be tolerated.” Heigl has committed herself to taking a stand for the cause of animal welfare. Just last month, she was awarded the ASPCA Presidential Service Award (looking to volunteer with the ASPCA or a local shelter? Click here.)
