Katy Perry sports the ring

Singer Katy Perry may have raised some brows with her scandalous song “I Kissed a Girl”, but apparently she’s actually much chaster than it may seem. People reported yesterday that her beau is none other than Gym Class Heroes singer Travis McCoy.
“We’re going to spend the whole summer together,” McCoy said at a recent record release party in Los Angeles. When asked what he likes about his girlfriend, McCoy said, “She’s super hot, for one. But when I first heard the song, I was like this is going to be a smash. The next thing you know it’s No. 1 on iTunes.”
Regarding their recent promises made to one another, McCoy recently bought Perry a diamond ring, but he insists it’s only a “promise ring.” She wears it on her left middle finger, and McCoy revealed that he has his own ring too. His is a silver band with “Katy” engraved on it. When asked if this was just practice for an actual proposal, McCoy shrugged… with a grin. Obviously it seems by this sly response that McCoy could potentially have marriage on his mind for the future, but if that’s the case, what’s the point of a promise ring anyway? Why are promise rings even necessary if an engagement is soon to follow?
However, this specific promise ring is not to be confused with the Jonas Brothers promise rings or purity rings, who have revealed that their promises are to remain virgins till their wedding night. So it seems then that there are two types of promise rings: one is a promise that you make to your partner to continue to be with them for an indefinite amount of time, and the other is a promise that, as Jonas Brother Joe puts it, “promises to ourselves and to God that we’ll stay pure till marriage.”
We think both are great ways of promoting safe sex, whether it's with one partner or through abstinence. What are YOUR thoughts on these two types of promises??

Katy Perry is a bombshell. She reminds us of a classy 50s pinup model, and she has a golden voice to boot. Although her style is classic, her mind is anything but vintage. CGG met up with the forward-thinking young singer backstage at Zootopia to find out what causes she sees in her future.
She was at Zootopia to introduce one of her favorite artists of the summer (and one of ours too!) Ferras, as well as to premiere the music video for her single “I Kissed a Girl.” Check it out as it premieres today on MySpace.
What kinds of causes would you like to get involved with?
I want to get involved in helping the homeless, helping people, making sure they’re fed and clothed. I think that’s a big job to do, all over the world most definitely. All kinds of different things. I don’t yet have a specific subject that I have yet to pour my heart and soul into, but I am dying to find it.
What causes do you see yourself doing in a year?
I don’t know, for me, I want to help girls out in all kinds of different capacities, young girls, making sure they feel respected and have self-control, and let them know I don’t care where you come from, who you are, who your parents are, how much money you make, but you deserve a wonderful life and you only get one. And I’m a young girl and I think a lot of young girls definitely like my music and I’m so happy about that.

Who are your female role models?
I have a few. I love Gwen Stefani, she’s amazing. I’m a big fan of the rocker chicks from the past, the Pat Benetars, the Joan Jetts, the Cyndi Laupers, you know those women were colorful and ever-changing and bold and fierce.

Warped Tour supports punks and philanthropists

The annual Van’s Warped Tour, the longest running tour in the country, has always been one of the most community oriented also. But this year, they also lifted the bar ten-fold by creating their Unite the United Nonprofit area to give back to the community they’ve worked so hard to join together!
The 2008 Vans Warped Tour brought in some of their hottest bands like Gym Class Heroes, Jack’s Mannequin, Katy Perry, Motion City Soundtrack, Paramore, and Relient K to help support the average 21 charitable and activism tents that were set up each day. And it looks like their combined efforts all paid off in a major way, as Unite the United raised over $350,000 for charities nationwide!
But raising money wasn’t the only accomplishment this year’s Tour made. It also gathered well over 40,000 lbs. of recyclables, collected over 45,000 units of blood for blood drives, screened 6,500 concertgoers for skin cancer, and donated more than four tons of food and clothing to local homeless shelters.
And that’s STILL not all. The VWT also held two volunteer days for clean-up efforts as well. The first day, held in St. Charles, LA., brought together bands and local organizations to help rebuild homes and community centers for victims of recent hurricanes. On day two, in Monterrey Bay, CA., tour professionals came out to pick up litter, scrape invasive algae off boat docks, test water samples, and conduct site surveys to aid in our understanding of the problems facing our oceans.
Who new that a bunch of punk rockers could come together with their local communities to do so much and give back to so many?! Looks like Vans’ Tour has warped from head-bangers to hand-lenders
