| Kelly takes the HIV test. via MTV International |
It's easy for a wealthy, multi-platinum artist to sign a check with lots of zeros on the end and send it off to an organization that helps those in need. But finding a down-to-earth diva who's willing to fly halfway around the world to see for herself what people really need? Not so easy.
Yet Kelly Rowland of Destiny's Child did exactly that, embarking on a trip to Kenya and Tanzania in her role as Special Ambassador to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, a global charity that's committed to empowering and educating young people to protect themselves against HIV/AIDS. Their current campaign: Stand by What You Say.
While in Nairobi, Kenya, Kelly even took an HIV/AIDS test. "I'm hoping me taking the test will encourage other to do so," the singer told CGG exclusively.
She went on to advise how to protect yourself: "Talking to one another can help hugely. Make sure you know the facts, and of course, practice what you preach! We’ve all got to realize that condoms are the only proven way to prevent HIV when having sex. C’mon guys – it’s your life we’re talking about!
Simple yet sage advice that we all must take to heart. Read more about Kelly’s trip to Africa and our exclusive interview here.

Go Kelly! I feel like I am listening to a real person here. She says it in such straight forward language it is hard not to listen to her. I wish more celebrities would get tested. It is not a glamorous thing but it is something everyone must do. Way to take the initiative Kelly! If only more celebrities could be like you.
i agree its a good change to see celebrities taking straight forward action! and a great and simple action everyone can and should follow.
I really feel that teaching by example is what works, and making the statement anyone can contract HIV/AIDS is a powerful and inspiring one. Nice Job Kelly
this is truly wonderful! I'm so glad Kelly is setting a good example.
