Celebs Gone Good
The Kardashians are H8ers

via NOH8
Okay, so maybe you're tired of seeing them all over reality TV, but the Kardashian sisters are now using the spotlight for a cause - gay marriage. Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian are the latest celebs to join the NOH8 campaign, which fights to overturn Proposition 8. Prop 8 was an amendment to the California State Constitute that banned same-sex marriage. What’s with the duct tape you ask? It symbolizes their voices not being heard – a feeling shared by tons of Californians, gay or straight, famous or not. The list of stars who’ve posed for the campaign is endless – Ashlee Simpson, Pete Wentz, Steve-O, Isaiah Washington, and Kathy Griffin are just a few of the big names.
What do you think of this campaign? Is it enough for celebs to just pose for photos, or should they be doing more for their cause? Sound off in the comments, and be sure to check out the NOH8 website to find out more and to see all the photos. Then, consider starting a gay-straight alliance if your school doesn't have one.

Brangelina's bling

via wn.com
How do they find the time to sleep? Superstar do-gooders Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have done it again, creating a line of high-end, limited-edition jewelry to benefit children living in war-torn countries. The snake-inspired line includes rings, bracelets, and even a baby spoon – this is kid-crazy Brangelina, after all. All the proceeds from the line will benefit the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which Angelina helped found a few years ago. The org educates children affected by war, conflict, and natural disasters around the globe. Prices start at $525 – so we’re guessing the collection will raise a ton of cash for a great cause.
Did you know that the right to education is included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights? But with 3 billion people living on less than $2 a day, it’s no surprise that so many children live without a decent education. To find out more, read our 11 facts about education around the world. Then, take action by starting an awareness campaign about global education issues.
Eva gets honored

via Sky News
This Desperate Housewife is a big-time do-gooder! Eva Longoria has been named Philanthropist of the Year by The Hollywood Reporter for her work in 2009. Eva founded Eva’s Heroes to help developmentally disadvantaged children, a cause near and dear to her because her sister is intellectually disabled. But Eva didn’t stop there – she’s also the national spokesperson for Padres Contra el Cancer, an organization that helps out Latino children living with cancer. Eva's also working on a documentary that looks at the lives of Latino child farm workers in America.
Says the head of The Hollywood Reporter: “I’ve never met a more conscientious and socially aware young, energetic talent… She pours her free time and energy into raising millions of dollars for charitable missions that make a difference in the Latino community and other humanitarian organizations.”
We’re super impressed with Eva – she clearly works on causes that hold a special place in her heart. Haven’t found your cause yet? Head over to our cause page to figure out what fires you up. Then act!!
Celebs gone veg

via PopEater
Some big-name stars are giving it all up – meat, that is. Celebs like Alicia Silverstone, Natalie Portman, Alec Baldwin, Anthony Kiedis, Forest Whitaker, Sir Paul McCartney, and Woody Harrelson, are all vegetarians, refusing to eat meat and fish for ethical, health, and environmental reasons. Some celebs have even put their money where their meat-free mouths are, posing naked in ads for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to draw attention to the cause. The PETA ads have become so controversial and well-known, the campaigns will be featured on this week’s Top 20 Celebs Gone Good on VH1.
Here’s more info on meat-free stars and their reasons for going veg. Be sure to read our terms on animal welfare for more info on vegetarianism. Not a vegetarian? Consider joining Paul by participating in Meat Free Mondays.

“There's gonna be a time when I'm way curvier, and that'll be sexy too. What defines sexy is not someone's weight. Personally I like curves. ... I wanna look good [for me]. I wanna feel good."

Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ AM, was famous for his incredible sneaker collection – he had more than 800 pairs! This Sunday, those shoes will go to a great cause when most of his collection hits eBay to be auctioned off to benefit the DJ AM Memorial Fund. The Fund helps young people struggling with addiction, a cause AM was passionate about before he died in August of an accidental drug overdose. The auction will include sneakers from Nike, Adidas, Converse, Reebok, and BAPE, many of them limited edition or otherwise hard to find.
So head over to the eBay auction page to check out the sneakers and maybe even bid on a piece of DJ AM’s legacy. Read our background on drug abuse to make sure you know about this issue, then start an awareness campaign to warn others about the dangers of drug abuse.

Get cozy for a cause

via Citta
Big name stars like Queen Latifah, Scarlett Johansson, Sting, Susan Sarandon, and David Bowie have teamed up with Citta, an org that helps out disadvantaged communities around the world. They’ll be selling high-end cashmere scarves that are hand-knit by residents at a Himalayan women’s center. The celebs chose different words to be embroidered on each scarf in the Sanskrit language, with the proceeds going to the Jaisalmer Women’s Center in India.
Don’t have $100 to drop on a scarf? Don’t worry, neither do we! But you can still get involved and help women around the world. You could run a donation drive to help American servicewomen stationed abroad, sign an Amnesty International pledge, or support domestic violence programs in your community.

Victoria's visit

via Pop Sugar
It might be the last place you’d expect to see the fashionable former Spice Girl, but Victoria Beckham spent this week in Clay County, Kentucky, one of the poorest counties in America. Posh made the trip to raise awareness about childhood poverty and the work being done by Save the Children to help kids here in the U.S. Along with her son, Brooklyn, Victoria attended an after-school reading program, where they read with kids and gave away sneakers and backpacks. Posh even got in on some soccer action with the students - yep, that's her in the photo! When asked about her son, Victoria said: “I’m pleased Brooklyn is learning that by helping and joining other children he can play a role in making this generation the greatest yet.
We love seeing a British celeb doing good here in America. Want to join Posh and do something to help fight poverty? Look over our global poverty page, which has tons of info on the issue. Then run a school supply drive and donate what you collect to a local family shelter or after-school program. And be sure to check out Save the Children’s website to find out more about what they do.
