Leonardo DiCaprio flew to Berlin this week to accept an award for his new environmental documentary The 11th Hour. He was acknowledged at a Cinema for Peace charity gala— the organization aims to promote peace and international understanding through film.

Leo’s new doc received the prestigious International Green Film Award. The award offers a platform for environmental activists to raise public awareness for environmental issues and comes with a $250,000 donation for an environmental foundation or film project. Leo is experienced is making green films and has made two others: Global Warning and Water Planet.

This doc is about the present environmental crisis and how technology and leadership can turn it around. It is packed with horrifying predictions like the UN’s estimate that by mid century we will have 150 million environmental refugees.

The message of Leo’s film is fundamentally different from past global destruction horror films. It reminds us that it’s not just a time to be afraid, but a time to celebrate because “this generation gets to completely change this world.”

Leo, a long-time green star, dished that Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth was a big inspiration for him. He told The Chicago Tribune that Al Gore’s film brought global warming "to the consciousness of the American public in a way that can't even be comparable to three years ago." Al Gore’s movie was just as jam packed with information, but in The 11th Hour you get to watch sexy Leo while you learn how to save the planet. And he is a bit easier on the eyes.
