Aside from being a fashion photographer, filmmaker, and author, America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker has another role—advocate for girls worldwide. Nigel has “manned up” by joining the United Nations Foundation’s Girl Up, a campaign that empowers American girls with the resources to help other girls in developing countries.
“Where would any of us be without the women in our lives?” Nigel asked the crowd at a Girl Up event in New York City last week. “When you think about this on a global scale, you realize that young girls and women aren’t offered the same things that men are. They are in fact treated like second class citizens.”
Father of two young children, Nigel is inspired by the power of today’s youth, (can you see why we love him so much?) as he continues to spread awareness.
The Girl Up campaign is on its Unite for Girls tour, hoping to persuade more American girls to follow their passion, and join this life changing cause.
Nigel has stepped up, and you can too. Try blogging about girl's issues at home and abroad, or tell us an idea that you have for promoting equality.
Take Nigel's advice, “If you want to do something about this then you should do that. When I heard about Girl Up I thought well heck, I am going to man up, and do what I can do to make a difference.”
