Michael J. Fox cheers on Ryan Reynolds and Team Fox

Ryan Reynolds runs for a cure via NYCMarathon

CGG was out on this streets this past Sunday to watch the New York City Marathon, and we ran into none other than Michael J. Fox who was cheering on the runners for over two hours! He was there to support a specific group of 130 Team Fox runners, who raised over $430,000 for Parkinson's research by completing the marathon. Michael, who was diagnosed in 1991 with Parkinson's, a disease that affects the central nervous system (meaning coordination and speech) has been a spokesman and hero for finding a cure. He created the Michael J. Fox Foundation to advance research through embryonic stem cell studies, and to date they've raised over $128 million!

One of the greatest moments of the day was when actor and Team Fox member, Ryan Reynolds ran by and met Michael for the very first time! Now that's what we call getting over the runner's hurdle!

Ryan raised over $80,000 running the marathon, garnering contributions from the likes of his wife Scarlett Johansson, and friends Rachel Ray and Sandra Bullock to name a few. After meeting at mile 22, Ryan took off looking pretty good on his way to a 3:50:22 marathon. Ryan (who had previously blogged about his fear of chafed nipples) said the intense marathon will probably be his last, but he was really inspired by Michael and will continue to work with Team Fox in the future.
