The basketball boys are back, and they are going green. That's right, the NBA has made a slam dunk for the green cause! The all-stars have teamed up with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) for the first-ever “Green Week.” The week kicked off yesterday and goes until April 10.
Last season, the NBA and NRDC launched the NBA Team Greening Advisor, www.greensports.org/nba, a Web-based environmental resource guide customized to help teams and arena operators identify ways to employ sound environmental practices.
Many team arenas have been modified with greener power by installing solar panels and wind-powered energy sources to minimize energy consumption, putting in water-saving fixtures, purchasing energy credits and carbon offsets, and implementing recycling programs.
But now the basket-ball stars are getting down and dirty for the cause. Each of the league’s 30 teams are directly helping in their communities by hosting discussions, planting trees, recycling drives, and park clean-up days.
So there you have it: the NBA is going eco-conscious and they want your help! Check back with CGG for the scoop on the NBA efforts like their green service projects. What do you want to see these guys do to green the NBA? Comment below!
