Nicole Kidman - politician?

via Top News

Nicole Kidman was in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday to talk to lawmakers about violence against women. The actress took the trip as part of her duties as a goodwill ambassador for the UN Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM). Nicole was there to demand more funding from Congress for the International Violence Against Women Act, which would enable the U.S. to work to reduce violence against women and girls in countries with the highest levels. Nicole was also asked about how movies portray women as weak sex symbols, and she responded: “I can’t be responsible for all of Hollywood but I can certainly be responsible for my own career.” Nicole will soon head to Kenya to do more work with UNIFEM.

One out of four women worldwide will experience domestic violence during her lifetime. Let your local politicians know that you (and Nicole!) want them to spend time and resources fighting violence against women. Check out our tips on how to organize a letter writing campaign so you can spread the word and send your message.

I can't believe you do not have David Cook in the list. I added him as a write-in, but I think he should be added to your list. He helped raised over $130,000 for the Race for Hope, which benefits the National Brain Tumor Society and Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. He even ran in the race the morning after his brother died from brain cancer.

and you can see his speech here:

He's also just helped with the Extreme Makeover-Home Edition, which benefits a family in need of a new home.

It would be great to see his name added to this list of celebs who "do good."

I second the above comment. You clearly haven't been paying attention to David Cook's humanitarian efforts. In addition to the money his team raised for the Race for Hope, he performed his inspirational song "Permanent" on the American Idol finale and gave the iTunes profits to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure.

He has also teamed with various sports celebrities to visit sick children and promote "Shadow Buddies": "Live from the red carpet will be American Idol winner David Cook, who joined forces with the Shadow Buddies Foundation last Christmas. Cook launched his own buddy during the holidays supporting children diagnosed with cancer."

At the Extreme Makeover-Home Edition site, not only was he involved with the charity auction, helping auction off an autographed guitar, but he worked with the others in the mud to help build the house.

He took his tour overseas to play for the troops in Kuwait and Iraq.

David does not go out of his way to draw attention to himself and his charitable work, but I think that if you investigate, you will find that he has done far more in this one year than most of the celebrities on your list.
