Well, it’s official. Michael Phelps is taking some heat for smoking marijuana. Not by his mother, not by his coach, but by the Kellogg's cereal company. No longer will Phelps’ Olympic grin grace the sides of our Corn Flakes or Frosted Flakes.
Phelps’ mishap will take a huge toll on his pocket; the loss of Kellogg's sponsorship will surely cost him. USA Swimming has also taken a hard stance against the Olympian. He can’t compete for three months, and USA Swimming will not be paying him for these same three months. “We decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming-member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero," USA Swimming announced in a statement to US magazine.
On a better note, Phelps has wholeheartedly admitted to his mistake, and has other corporate sponsors, like Speedo and Omega Watches, on his side.
So tell us, do you thinks all this Phelps treatment is fair? Or are being being too harsh or not harsh enough? AND, have you learned anything from this whole debacle? Let us know below!!
