Nominee Profile: Ellen Degeneres

This comedian and talk-show queen has been pretty busy balancing her popular talk-show and all of her charity work. A long-time advocate for animal rights, she was honored by the Humane Society (her favorite charity!) for using her wedding with Portia de Rossi to raise awareness about everyday alternatives to animal products.

Ellen Degeneres has also supported a series of organizations through auctions. She hosted auctions for the Humane Society, Farm Sanctuary's Peace for the Animals, and the Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund in the aftermath of the earthquake in January.

Last month, Ellen (and Portia) joined the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine to show their support for the Healthy School Meals Act, which would require schools to offer plant-based meal options and non-dairy beverages.
