Social Vibe caught up with “House” and “Year One” star Olivia Wilde at Comic-Con to chat about her favorite superhero and favorite charity. She may have made up the superhero (an awesome eco-warrior!) but her favorite charity is very real—how do we know? It’s a DS Award winner’s charity!

Olivia Wilde stays true to her "House" character, Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley, by supporting health around the world with charities like Power up Gambia—a charity started by a DS Award winner, Kathryn Cunningham. Power up Gambia is the perfect charity for Olivia to support because it combines her two favorite causes: health and the environment!

So what does Olivia love about Power up Gambia? They provide reliable electricity and water to healthcare facilities in The Gambia through solar energy. The facilities did not used to have a continuous supply of energy—something absolutely necessary in a hospital. Imagine a hospital without light, running water, and refrigeration. They may not have much electricity, but one thing the Gambia has tons of is sunlight. So Kathryn utilized the power of the sun to bring solar energy to one hospital in the region.

Check out the clip of Olivia giving Power up Gambia and Do Something a shout out below! Get the low down on renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind power, biomass energy, geothermal energy, solar power and even trash! And check out Power up Gambia’s site for more info on how you can get involved.
