Operation Iraqi Stephen

Colbert with Troops
via The New York Times

Operation Iraqi Stephen has begun! Stephen Colbert has gone to Baghdad to report four episodes of the Colbert Report this week to support an initiative with DonorsChoose.org. He is reporting in a camouflage suit and tie straight from Camp Victory.

How is he getting away with this? It is, after all, the only time in history that the US has allowed a non-news television show to come into a combat zone. He is doing it through the United Service Organizations (USO), which brings entertainment and other programs to troops in the field. He has even been declared the official Mr. USO. Go Colbert!

On his first day, Stephen got his hair cut in true military fashion from a top commander—an order from President Obama. After losing his locks, Stephen promptly declared victory in the war. While that may not be true, the troops seemed to get a kick out of the funny man's comedic performance.

Want to support our troops like Colbert? Join or organize a letter writing team to send letters to our troops. You can even adopt a solider to write letters and send care packages to! Tell us what you think—can Colbert entertain the troops without taking it too far? Will he hold the Mr. USO crown forever? Comment below!
