Playin' Around

Kirk and Anne Douglas are no ordinary couple. They spent their 54th wedding anniversary by donating their 400th school playground.

About 10 years ago, they started the Kirk Douglas Playground Award and have raised over $8 million dollars to provide L.A. elementary schools with fantastic, fun, safe playgrounds. Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger was on hand, and told ABC7 Eyewitness News that "Four hundred have been rebuilt and this is the celebration of not only this playground, but of the 400th playground that was completed."

The Douglas’s aren’t the only ones getting involved by building playgrounds- stars such as NASCAR driver Tony Stewart, rapper Reverend Run, and even T.V. legends Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa have hooked up with KaBOOM, a non-for-profit organization dedicated to creating a great place to play in walking distance of every child in America. "I'm personally committed to bringing families together - at the dinner table, in communities and on playgrounds,” Run told People Magazine.
