"I have no illusion that this film will erase all the harm done," Spike Lee tells ELLE about his new film Miracle at St. Anna which portrays WWII from the perspective of black Americans, "but what I hope people will take from it is that these soldiers were true patriots. It's easy to pick up a gun and fight for your country when your country treats you like a human being. It's a much greater act of patriotism to do that when your country treats you like a second-class citizen."
