Rascal Flatts puts a country tune to the gay cause

CGG loves Rascal Flatts’ new single, Love Who You Love! With it’s gender-free lyrics and very catchy chorus, this song can appreciated by everyone. The song just popped up on iTunes yesterday and you can get their new album when it hits stores April 7th.

For anyone who doubted that a country band would so openly reach out to the gay cause, you may have to reconsider. Guitarist Joe Don Rooney told CMT, “That’s what’s cool about our music. You can interpret (it like) that. If you get that — it’s perfect. If you are someone who’s gay or someone who’s straight, you still feel something from the song, and that’s what we want.”

We commend the band for really breaching the gap between different communities in the United States. We hope that this starts a precedent for all musicians to try and break the stereotypes and blur the lines that are ingrained into our society.

Gary LeVox from the band says, "For a long time, some of them didn’t get to hear ‘I love you’ from their dads or be accepted in that way. It’s helped a lot of our friends."

This is exactly what the doctor ordered as part of the collective healing for the gay community, and everyone for that matter since the passage of Proposition 8. During this legal battle, the support from unexpected corners of society is very helpful indeed.

Do you like the new single!? Do you think this song could help encourage people to be more accepting of the gay community? Or is it just another catchy tune that will fade out of the spotlight? Comment below.
