Sienna Miller: A Diary from the DRC

Sienna Miller has gone from the silver screen to the computer screen with a simple click of a mouse. The lovely actress is traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo and blogging back her experiences for the social action website Take Part. She seeks to raise awareness about the ongoing violence in the country and work with International Medical Corps.

“Since 1998, over four million people have died in a conflict that continues to claim 45,000 every month due to violence, starvation, and disease,” says Sienna on her blog called “Sienna Miller: A Diary from Democratic Republic of Congo.”

Her latest entry talks about her first visit to a refugee camp. She tells the story of a woman who was gang-raped, probably by members of the army. She is one of the many women with horror stories of sexual abuse in the camps. A woman in the DRC is raped every eight minutes.

Some are criticizing Sienna because even though she is visiting the camps, she is staying in luxury hotels and distancing herself from most of the conflict. Do you think critics are being too harsh on Sienna—that it is unrealistic to expect a Hollywood A-lister to live in the rubble? Or do you think she should practice what she’s preaching?
