Spike Lee to Spotlight Passing Strange

CGG

Remember when CGG reported Spike Lee’s MySpace blogging about his new
favorite Broadway show, Passing Strange? Well, Spike loved the “unstoppable force of energy, music and mayhem” so much that he’s doing what he does best, bringing it to the big screen!

For those of you that don’t know, Spike expressed his strong views on Hurricane Katrina in his exposing documentary, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts. Now he’s trying his hand at capturing the essence of Broadway at its finest, with Passing Strange, a tale of rebellion, music, soul, and discovery. We wanted to know why music is so powerful for youth today, so we caught up with Spike and his crew for their opinion on the subject.

Stew, the shows playwright and composer, said that, “[music is powerful because] you can’t see it, you can’t touch it, you can’t really put your finger on it and yet it has an effect on you that goes beyond words.”

Spike chimed in with, “For me, the greatest artists are musicians.” Music is exactly what inspired Spike to bring the Broadway hit to life, filled with jazz, punk, gospel, and blues, there’s something to suit everyone’s musical tastes!
