Star Trek studs are smoke-free

via Fox News
The new Star Trek movie is getting some major attention...but not for the usual Hollywood reasons. It has been picked up as a good example of a movie that doesn’t “promote” smoking. A forum on Facebook chronicles the ongoing debate between various online users.
The forum is part of an effort by the American Medical Association and other groups who are trying to get movie studios to avoid tobacco imagery. These groups say all movies that include “gratuitous smoking” should get an automatic “R” rating, citing studies that say smoking in films encourages real-life teen smoking.
If you want to take a stand against smoking—hold a “Tobacco Trade-In” at your school and have people trade in their cigarettes for something better! Tobacco is responsible for nearly one in every five deaths in the United States and is the largest cause of preventable death.
Even President Obama has struggled with addiction. But do you think that seeing movie stars or politicians lighting up causes teens to? Comment below!
