Stella Schnabel and friend. CGG
Last night CGG attended the downtown soiree Cut/Break hosted by actress Stella Schnabel (daughter of director/painter Julian Schnabel) at the Soho Grand. Aquatic photos made by the likes of Martyn Thompson, Chris Gentile, and Joe Curren, were up for silent auction to benefit SFOTE (Special Friends of the Earth). The huge shots explored surfing across a variety of cultures, and its efforts to support the initiatives of SFOTE.
What are these initiatives of SFOTE? Their mission is to create sustainable programs with lasting change in communities worldwide. They’re currently working on the Laventille Bus Project, which works to give free, sustainable school transportation to children in Trinidad.
Laventille is an impoverished, crime-ridden community. Although school is free, there is no public bus system to get kids there, thus resulting in a low attendance rate and high drop out rate. SFOTE has found the root of the problem and a simple solution with huge ramifications.
