The British boy band Take That took home their second O2 Silver Clef award this weekend but the fame and fortune is not getting to their heads. Right after they won the award at the Intercontinental Hotel in London they made a major donation to charity.

That’s because the Silver Clef award goes to artists who give big to the charitable organization Nordoff-Robbins —a music therapy service in the UK. Each year Nordoff-Robbins provides 30,000 people with music therapy. Take Back donated $50,000 to the charity and the entire event raised over $400,000!

What is music therapy? Well, although Take That and other rockers use music to jam out on stage, the arts are also used for educational and therapeutic purposes. Music therapy uses the unique qualities of music to help children and adults live more creatively and resourcefully in the face of illness, disability or traumatic experiences.

Inspired by Take That’s give back? Interested in the arts? Go volunteer at your local hospital and put on a night of entertainment for sick kids. You can even teach them how to beat on the bongos or strum on a guitar. And don’t forget to tell us what you think of Take Back and the Silver Clefs—comment below!
