Amongst the many Pre-Oscar parties going on this week, one stands out from the crowd. The Global Green USA hosted its 6th Annual Pre-Oscar Party and all of CGG’s favorite green celebs turned up for the event including Orlando Bloom, Penelope Cruz, Kate Bosworth, Rosario Dawson, Heather Graham, Damien Rice, Leonardo DiCaprio and more.
The annual event raises funds and awareness for green schools. It especially supports improving student health and performance, creating green jobs and advancing smart climate solutions. This year, the event launched Global Green’s “National Green Schools” initiative, drawing attention to the critical need to re-vamp schools to make them more eco-friendly.
The stars even arrived in green style. Each star was given a ride to the event in an environmentally friendly Audi Q7 TDI. This The marked the kick off Global Green’s Red Carpet/Green Cars campaign, where celebrities arrive at the red carpet in fuel-efficient vehicles.
In fact, the entire event practiced what they preached. All of the electricity generated from the party was carbon neutral. By offsetting the electricity for the event, over 2,150 lbs. of CO2 was avoided.
To put this in perspective for us, the Global Green website puts it this way: this has the same environmental impact as not driving your car over 2,400 miles or the annual forest sequestration of 130 trees. Furthermore, by offsetting the electricity for the Pre-Oscar Party, it is equivalent to recycling more than 5,300 aluminum cans or recycling over 865 pounds of newspaper.
This was definitely CGG’s favorite Pre-Oscar party to date. We hope some of the other celebrations will follow their lead!
