When you think of the name Natasha Bedingfield, what words come to mind? “Beautiful.” “British.” “Singer.” “Star.” But is this how Pocketful of Sunshine helm Natasha wants to be viewed by the world? At Cosmopolitan’s Fun Fearless Females Star Launch Event this past Friday, Natasha confessed to CGG, “I’m in such a selfish industry…it's all about promoting yourself… Talking about your nail varnish is all well and good, [but] at some point you better say something meaningful!”
Natasha plays a huge part in promoting her mother’s international charity Global Angels. The charity seeks to improve the well being of children all over the world by providing people with reputable organizations and reliable sources that will ensure that money is donated to the right places. Natasha explained, “100 percent of the money goes to projects which give directly to help the children, because they are the leaders of tomorrow.” Just by looking at her exuberant face as she answered my questions, I could tell she was so inspired by the project. And, the outlet for her inspiration is her music: “My single was called “Angel” based on the Global Angels Organization,” she told me, smiling broadly.
“You grow up and you see so many problems and when I went to India and saw the smiles on these young girls faces, you find out one person can make a difference.” (Sound familiar, DoSomething users? Even Natasha Bedingfield knows how much impact one person can have on the world!) And yet, the word, “Humanitarian” does not even come close to this amazingly thoughtful woman’s pictures in popular magazines. This, my friends, is a problem. So let’s recognize her here! Next time you listen to “Angel,” you will really know what Natasha is singing her heart out about.
