Crocs have found their way to the feet of kids across the U.S., and with the help of a NBA player with a big heart, they're about to make their way to thousands of kids who need them most.
Charlie Villanueva of the Milwaukee Bucks has recently teamed up with Crocs and their Soles United footwear donation program to contribute the shoes to a horde of youngins from his parents’ home country the Dominican Republic. While there from Aug 29-31, Charlie handed out over 10,000 of recycled Crocs to underprivileged children to launch Tenis Para Ni (Sneakers for Kids); a footwear donation project which was developed by the Charlie Villanueva Foundation.
Legendary meringue singer Johnny Ventura, showed up along with a crew of other DR superstars who helped volunteer at the launch to show their support for Charlie.
“I have witnessed first hand the wide spread desolate conditions in the Dominican Republic,” Charlie said. “Few Americans realize many Dominican people have never owned shoes before, so the simple act of providing them with quality Crocs footwear is invaluable. It is my hope that this benevolent partnership with Soles United will only continue to grow with the support of my fellow NBA players moving forward.”
Try living in Dominican children’s shoes for a day (ergo… try doing it barefoot). We love Charlie's ambition in helping the children of the DR, not to mention doing it in an eco-friendly way: the shoes are recycled. Way to go, Charlie!
