Should Miley cough up $4 bil for controversial photo?

via Freshnews

You be the judge! Miley Cyrus' controversial photo could cost her big bucks. She’s being sued $4 billion for, according to TMZ, “acting in conscious disregard for the rights of her Asian Pacific Islander Fans.”

Why the sky-high sum? LA based lawyer Lucie J. Kim who is representing the group says that each of the Asian Pacific Islanders in LA deserves to be compensated. Because the minimum punishment for a single civil rights violation is $4000 and the total amount of Asian Pacific Islanders is one million...well, you do the math.

Miley has responded with two apologies, the latest stressing “how sorry [she felt] if the photo...offended anyone.” She continued: “I have learned a valuable lesson from this and know that sometimes my actions can be unintentionally hurtful.”

The Asian American comedian Margaret Cho is not too happy with the teen idol. Though known to tell jokes regarding Asian stereotypes, Margaret says that there is a fine line between humor and intolerance. “Why isn’t racism against Asians taboo? Why are we always so racially screwed?” Cho writes on her blog, “This kind of joke has no proper place."

Was this face a “conscious,” racial slur or simply a careless error on Miley’s part? Is $4 billion a fair amount, or could a strong warning have sufficed as a punishment? You decide, comment below!
