The stunning Penelope Cruz will co-chair the "Whitney’s Gala and Studio Party" this year. While the event doesn’t actually take place until October 19th, Penelope and her partner Donatella Versace have already started preparing.

The lovely ladies have collaborated with the Whitney’s Education Department and designed a project called "Art Unites" that just launched this month. As part of the program, Versace will provide canvas and art supplies to children in the United States and China. They will get to create original drawings using the theme of “friendship” and each one will be fashioned into a one-of-a-kind canvas tote bag. The best one will be featured in a runway show at the October Gala.

100% of the proceeds from the bags will benefit art-loving charities like The Starlight Children’s Foundation and The Red Cross Society of China Jet Li One Foundation. The Starlight Foundation is an organization dedicated to brightening the lives of sick children and their families through art therapy. The One Foundation works to recover the area devastated by last year’s earthquakes in the Sichuan province of China.

The One Foundation also sponsors two children’s centers in the devastated area that provide schooling, psychological therapy, and post trauma counseling for over 1200 people, through creative visual arts an essential form of relief.
