The Obamas celebrated the Easter holiday with a new furry friend named Bo! The first family has finally made their doggy decision and just look how adorable he is!—a perfect companion for our fearless leader. The Portuguese water dog is a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy and will officially move into the White House tomorrow.

Why is this tiny pup making so much noise? Environmental and animal activists alike have been pressuring the Obamas to adopt from an animal shelter. But because of Malia’s allergies, they had to find a hypo-allergenic dog which is not an easy feat in a shelter.

That’s right, the Obamas couldn’t find a dog in the pound that fit their needs, but they got the next best thing. Bo is a “second-chance” dog meaning he came from a kennel but he had been returned by his owner. The Obamas are his second chance at a loving family.

Not everyone is as enthusiastic about the pup as Malia and Sasha. Some animal rights workers are disappointed with the decision because they were hoping that Obama’s adopted pup would start a trend amongst Americans. Unwanted, pound bound pups are crowding into the shelters which are 20-30% above capacity due to the recession.

What do you think—is the decision to buy a pup from a kennel giving the wrong message? Does their generous donation to the Humane Society make up for the disappointment? Comment below!
