The rapper and producer Wyclef Jean was honored last night by the World Hunger Year (WHY) Chapin awards for his efforts to fight hunger in Haiti. The event took place at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City.

WHY is an international non-profit organization that connects grass roots charities to funding expertise and publicity. They awarded "The Perfect Gentleman" Wylcef with the Harry Chapin Humanitarian trophy for his very own Yéle Haiti foundation. The organization works towards long-term progress for Haiti via small-scale, manageable projects like education, health, environment and community development programs.

Wyclef has been dedicated to the hunger cause here in America as well—he has been seen serving food alongside other stars to people in need. That is especially important during these harsh economic times when 36.2 million Americans are food insecure.

You can help Wyclef’s cause by participating in Do Something’s "Feed the Need" campaign and setting up a food drive in your school or community. Tell us what you think about Wyclef’s win! Do you admire his helping hand in Haiti? Or should he be focused on American atrocities? Comment below.
