Clinton gets down to green business in India

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in India today, wrapping up a three-day visit to the country, where she talked about fighting terrorism and climate change.

She admitted that the U.S. has been a big-time contributor to climate change, saying “we have made mistakes in the United States,” before adding “We are hoping a great country like India will not make the same mistakes.”

Clinton was echoing Obama’s statement in early July, when he said the U.S. has “fallen short” in our efforts to downsize our carbon footprint.

She also met with 11 top Indian business leaders, to talk about India’s rapidly growing economy and tactics to make this growth green. Since the 1990’s India has been one of the fastest-growing countries, in terms of its economic advances and new business development. Many are hoping that this speedy development will bring an end to the widespread poverty that also exists in the country.

After the meeting, she said “We believe India is innovative and entrepreneurial enough to figure out how to deal with climate change while continuing to lift people out of poverty and develop at a rapid rate.”

What do you think? Are you worried that India will depend on non-green ways to continue its speedy track into the modern business world?

Want to clean up America’s track record on the environmental front? Find out your carbon footprint. Then, figure out how to reduce it.
