Darfuri women face daily 'nightmare' says new Harvard study

A new report out of Darfur, Sudan and its neighboring country, Chad, highlights the urgent need for the prosecution of rape as a war crime.

The study is based on interviews with 88 female Darfuri refugees living in Chad, many of whom have been raped at least once or several times and go through isolation and humiliation in society afterward. Physicians for Human Rights put out the report last night and say that there is a huge failure to protect women who fled from Darfur in hopes of safety.

Sexual violence is one of the most often used tools to terrorize the Darfuri population by the Janjaweed militias who are driving Darfuri citizens from their homes.

Learn more about the conflict in Darfur, rape as a tool of war, and see what you can do to help women and all Darfuris.
