Energy bill update

We’ve kept you up to date about the new energy bill, also known as the Waxman-Markey bill, that is making its way through Washington, D.C. these days. Over the weekend, President Obama asked senators to take a cue from the House of Representatives, who passed the bill on Friday. The bill will raise energy prices, and curb greenhouse gas emissions, and passed by just seven votes.

Up next? The bill will be debated and voted on in the Senate. It is expected to be a harder fight in the Senate, but if it is passed, it will likely effect everyone in the country. The ultimate goal is that it will create a new energy-efficient economy.

Solar, wind, geothermal and other kinds of renewable energy companies would benefit financially from the bill, but everyday customers would feel the pinch.
The price of energy bills will definitely go up and oil and gas companies will suffer financially from the new bill too.

The new laws would be put in place with the hope of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 17 percent by 2020 and by 80 percent over the next 100 years.

So what do you think? Should the Senate pass the bill, letting Obama sign it into law? Or it is too much especially given the way the American economy is these days? Let us know, comment below!

Lucky for you, you don’t have to wait until the law passes to get more eco-friendly.
