Families to get money if energy bill passes

A few weeks ago we told you about the new energy bill that is making its way through Congress right now. Well a new look at the bill predicts that low-income families will get hundreds of dollars a year to help pay their higher energy bill if Congress passes the limit on gases that cause global warming.

Families will likely have to pay more for energy, but it’s still uncertain how much more, and the Congressional Budget Office of global warming legislation estimates that low income families will receive around $161 to $359 in credit if the bill is passed into law. The amount could rise or double over the years, relative to the size of the family.

Non-government sponsored studies estimate that the average American household could pay anywhere between an extra $98 to $1,600 more in energy costs each year.
With all of these bank bailouts going on, where will all this extra money come from you ask? Under the plan, the government will auction off ‘pollution permits’ to the companies that rely on a certain level of pollution in order to create energy. The families will receive money made from these pollution permit auctions.

So what do you think about the clean energy bill? What about giving families more money to pay their bills if it passes? Does it sound like a good plan?
